Epsom Salts Tea Bath Bags
I have a new obsession. Ok, ok, maybe it’s not completely new. I love baths and I love making awesome things to add to my bath.I add ingredients to my “bath tea” that support sleep, relaxation as well as overall health. I have a tendency to be very high strung and taking a nice warm bath helps me to relax and slow down.
I start with Epsom Salts. There are a lot of benefits, the big one being that it provides a way for your body to absorb magnesium which is something a lot of us are deficient in. Magnesium plays a vital role in regulating over 300 enzymes in your body as well as many bodily functions such as muscle control and energy. A magnesium deficiency can contribute to heart disease, stroke, arthritis, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive disorders as well as mental illness.
Stress is known to drain the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline. When dissolved in warm water, like a nice tea bath, Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin and replenishes magnesium in the body. Magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. Research has shown that magnesium also increases energy and stamina by supporting the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy packets made in the cells. Experts believe that bathing with Epsom salt at least three times a week helps you to look better, feel better and gain more energy. Magnesium ions also help you relax and reduce irritability by lowering the effects of adrenaline. In addition to helping support serotonin, Epsom salts have insulin reducing effects which helps manage diabetes while also helping circulation to support a health heart.
Additionally, Epsom salt can help reduce foot odor and fungus, can work as a detoxifier to the body and relieve muscle cramps and pain. It’s an all around whole health support.
I also add additional items to make a “tea” of sorts. I like dried rose petals, chamomile, lavender, peppermint and more. You can dry these items yourself or purchase them.
I like to include herbs and oils that promote sleep and relaxation. Chamomile is a great choice as it offers many wonderful benefits from promoting restful sleep, easing tight muscles and purifying the skin.
Lavender is also a great choice. It is often referred to as the Swiss Army Knife of essential oils because of the vast number of uses. It has been studied and proven to help alleviate stress and aid in sleep.
Cedarwood is one of my favorite essential oils, especially combined with lavender.
You Will Need:
Combine all ingredients and fill tea bags. Place your bath tea bag in the water and the Epsom Salts will dissolve in the water. The additional herbs and oils will also dissolve in the water for the added health and wellness benefits.
We’d love to hear what mixtures of herbs & oils you love!
